We all come through this question at one point of time or another, "should I wear that?"
How many times do you look at the mirror for checking if your hairs are kempt, dress is fine or if something is stuck on your teeth? While shopping do you need to think twice before selecting any dress if it goes well with your complexion, body size, etc. But why do we do all this??
I think I can confidently say that this is because we live in a society and we have to go, act and even dress according to its norms. Society wants to mold us according to its superficial expectations; not only our thinking but body too.
For an instance, we all know the common obsession for fairer skin.
A mother-in-law always wants her child to choose a fair complexioned life partner, and surprisingly 'this' notion is not gender biased ,i.e., whether it's a girl or boy their future marital happiness depends on the 'complexion' of their life partner....!!
Because of these notions we become so self conscious about our looks and body that we cost our health over the outer beauty.
But the question arises how this all get started....???
Right from the beginning, at the home, when a mother hands over a make-up box or tells her daughter that this is the age where they need to be more aware of their face and figure.
When a father compliments his son that he looks more studious and elegant in formals.
These instances find space somewhere in the young minds and they start to get conscious about their looks or appearance. This ultimately results in the impediment in growth of an individual.
But the significant question is that "is it really that important?"
Why only our body is taken to show our true selves, even when we do know that it's not true at all. We all have heard the story of 'The stag beetle', where the moral of the story goes, "everything that glitters is not gold." But why we are unable to inculcate this value in our life, family and our society...!!
People go through so many plastic and other cosmetic surgeries just to look "perfect". Many even starve just to have a "perfect" figure. Many of them prefer to have "perfect" body over the "healthy" one.
What can be done??
Answer is simple - Acceptance.
Living on society's expectations ultimately results in losing the significance of our own life. In our daily life we use a common phrase like "we are humans....we can't be perfect!!" But why are we so rigid and stubborn to accept it in our own life.
"We don't need to be perfect, we need to be different and accept it."
Even if our body is not perfect but it belongs to us, it might have some flaws but some strengths too. Our body is a combination of unique flaws and smile, a smile that come from deep within, a smile that shows that we are happy not to have a perfect body but to be different and perfect in our own way.
The truth of who we are as a person should not just be reflected on the outside; what if we could break free from the shackles that bind us through our broken self images and recognize our true identity that is built within our hearts.

ReplyDeleteAccepting your flaws and flaunting them would be the solution! NOBODY IS PERFECT GET OVER THE FACT AND BE YOURSELF.
ReplyDeleteBody shaming on the base of complextion ,height, weight can ruin someone's life.
