Dogma is basically a set of belief(s) that people are expected to accept as true without questioning. It has always been a hot potato. In every religion there are some dogmas which no one is expected to question. If you believe in certain religion or philosophy, you believe in its dogma, or core assumptions. There could be numerous examples of Dogmas - Veganism in Hindu Culture ; Purdah system in both Hindu and Muslim Traditions, etc. The one important point to note is that 'all dogmas are doctrine but not every doctrine is a dogma'. Doctrines are the teachings in the matters of faith and morals. Dogma is more narrowly defined as that part of doctrine which has been divinely revealed and which the religious group has formally defined and declared to be believed as revealed. Dogma is rigid in nature and thereby has become irrelevant and burden to the modern generation. On the other hand Morality is to adhering to moral principles which is concerned with the distinction between right and wrong. In my opinion one can only start being truly ethical when you are not looking at things based on a series of beliefs on how things should behave, but instead take each case by its individual merits. Dogma might has relevance with the scenario when they were created but to follow unquestioningly even in the present scenario when they are no longer relevant is question to both conscience and ethics.
"She can not wash her hair for at least the first 2 days of her period."
This is again something weird passed on from elder ladies in the family. May be years back when bath had to be taken in streams or public baths, it used to get inconvenient to wash body and hair when bleeding. But in today's age, it is one of those illogical dogma that need to be followed in the family.
It's been rightly said that "you have to be a Roman to live in Rome". These Dogmas have to be modified when the situation so demands. There should be a warm welcome of innovation and acceptability among the masses to ensure the rise of morality.
The ending of stringent Dogmas will be the beginning of true morality!!
